It was a beautiful day in late March as I joined Capt. Jodie Gay of Blue Water Candy Lures, Capt. Rick Croson of Living Waters Guide Service, Capt. Arlen Ash of Ultimate Reaction Sportfishing and my friend, and Director of Photography, Warren Gentry for a day of fishing and filming in the Gulf Stream.

Credence Pictures is developing a DVD project to show anglers how to catch any number of species of fish both inshore and offshore using a new lure developed by Blue Water Candy Lures called the “Roscoe”.  This new jig comes in three sizes:  7oz. for use in over 100’ water, 4oz. for under 100’ and a new 2.5oz. (yet to be named) for inshore fishing.  We will be selling the DVD in the TackleMonkey.com store and you can already order the Roscoe jigs there.

Freestyle Vertical Jigging or as some call it, Yo-Yo jigging has become extremely popular in the past few years.  Blue Water Candy Lures developed a new lure just for bottom fishing with Freestyle jigging gear.  It resembles a squid and is designed to be used with assist style hooks and rings.  The main body is painted in light emitting pearl GLOW with several accent colors available to choose from.  There is a small fin on the backside to help the jig cut through the water quickly.  While designed for bottom fishing during product testing we noticed that it worked equally well the middle of the water column too!  Great for Grouper and other bottom dwellers as well as AmberJacks, Tuna, Dolphin and others fish that feed on squid.  It comes in two sizes, 5 ounce and 7 ounce.  Roscoe comes unrigged or you can order the optional hookset.  The hookset includes an Owner 7/0 hook on 240lb. kevlar leader attached to a stainless steel solid ring and a stainless split ring for attaching to Roscoe.

We left out of Wrightsville Beach around 5:30AM and headed out about 65 miles into the Gulf Stream.  It didn’t take long to get the first grouper in the boat.  We caught a total I believe of seven grouper species this day.  Add to that an 80 lb. amberjack, another Amberjack almost that size and a whole bunch between 15-40 lbs. or more.  We also caught trigger fish, king mackerel, Blackfin Tuna, and more.
